Alaska's Redoubt Volcano produces steam from a vent near the summit. This mountain erupted in 1989 and produced a huge cloud of ash. The eruption began in darkness and sent a cloud over the Homer area which produced purple lightning. None of my friends and relatives which saw it called to wake me and almost 20 years later they are still on my list! 19 April 2006
